- In 1864 the famous poet Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, one of the most-read Spanish authors, burdened with health problems, retired to the Monastery of Veruela.
  
  Far away from the noise and political-social activities of the Spanish capital, he immersed himself in the countryside of Mount Moncayo, the most mysterious mountain in Spain.
  
  There the poet, following his romantic spirit, discovered a world of ancient legends and customs while wandering around nearby mountain villages, especially Trasmoz, “The Village of the Witches,” the only officially damned town in Spain. The curse still stands today and can only be lifted by the Pope.
  
  Today, in the fast-paced 21st century, a young poet in crisis discovers Bécquer´s “Letters from my Cell”. Inspired by the stories, she decides to follow the poet´s path, and discovers magical stories hidden in plain sight today. Through her travels, the documentary will distinguish legends from reality.
  
  The story of witches and witchcraft, the origins of the terrible witch-hunt, the little known medieval Inquisition, and the other side of the Black Legend of the Spanish Inquisition will be revealed.
  
  The documentary navigates between Becquer and the Witches. It discovers the lesser-known side of the famous Spanish poet, an innovator and a true artist. The documentary reveals the witches as women who knew the power of plants and nature, and who were persecuted for their knowledge.
  
  This unique film blends Becquer´s poetry, ancient legends, the story of women, and the modern re-interpretation of mythology into a single narrative that embraces the romantic love of mystery.
