    • Synopsis
    • WIFREDO LAM: THE ETERNAL EXILE is an exploration of Wifredo Lam’s multifaceted life as an artist of mixed Afro-Cuban Chinese heritage. Lam enjoyed a career that spanned decades and continents, while living through many of the dramatic socio-political events of the 20th century. He was recognized in his time (1902 – 1982) as one of the few accomplished artists of colour in the largely European modern art movement that included cubism and surrealism. During this time, he also befriended notable artists including Picasso and Andre Breton.

His story is told through a poetic search that is undertaken by his granddaughter Hakea, who had never met him but now wishes to explore and perhaps reclaim her heritage.
