    • Synopsis
    • Wanderer is a visual meditation on the return to the origin through the register of a solitary journey around the Arctic Circle. The transformation of the landscape through the four seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring again) and the internal connection with what you see, to allow for your own transformation. It’s the conquest of home, in the sense of striving to get to the place you belong to. Death as an image of transformation, the end of a cycle and the return to life once again.
Between January 2019 and May 2020 I travelled alone around the Arctic Circle (Islas (Svalbard Islands, Iceland and the North of Norway). Before, in 2012, I’d been to the Antarctic and the South Pole, the beginning of a passage. In that instance the images were black and white photographs. The passage now is also towards movement and colour. I recorded image and sound with a stills camera, where what mattered was what happened within the frame, without the support of technical equipment. Movement within the single point of view, like visual meditations and the ambient sound enhancing what was happening. The choice of the conditions for recording relate to the intention of prioritizing the personal experience of solitude in extremely remote and unknown places.
The various seasonal passages are complimented by brief quotes providing the film’s through-line.
Frigyes Karinthy (Trip Around My Cranium)
      Doris Dörrie (Greetings from Fukushima)
Liliana Bodoc (Congress of Fantasy Literature)
      Luis Alberto Spinetta (Very Far)
      Theodor Kallifatides (Another Life)
Antonio Gamoneda (The Book on the Cold)
Haruki Murakami (Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki and his Years of Pilgrimage)
The film has ambient sound throughout its 77 minutes, with the exception of 2 scenes recorded in interiors where fragments of background music, what I was listening to at the time. These are:
      Ketil Bjørnstad, Silhouettes, 1’04’’ fragment.
      Welten, ), 1’13’’ fragment.
      Nick Cave, Hollywood, 1’54’’ fragment
The end credits will be accompanied by the song De Madera Rosa, (Pink Wood) by the Argentine musician Gabo Ferro.
What I wish to transmit with Wanderer is the long way home. Perhaps there’s not much more to life than that, a return journey, the return to the origin. The task being, to return a better person, disappear in the universe, be nothing.
To find in what we see, the path to return home.
