Jose, a fisherman, learns that two of his sons have been murdered and thrown into the river. He sets out to find them, traveling on his way through regions ravaged by fear. In the end, with the help of magical prayers, he manages to stay alive and to recover bodies that he makes his own.

    • Synopsis
    • Jose, an old fisherman
      Returns home after a long night of work,
      Fearing the worst.
      When he gets home, his daughter is crying:
      Paramilitaries have killed Jose’s two sons,
      Dionisio and Rafael, and thrown their bodies into the river.

      Racked by deep pain,
      Jose decides to set out to find them.
      He uses a powerful prayer
      And all of his traditional beliefs to stay alive.
      He wants to bury his loved ones as they deserve
      And keep them from wandering about
      Like so many other wandering souls.

      This is the story of his solitary journey.

      In his rowboat,
      Jose will discover
      The magic of a country that has been torn apart,
      The bodies of other children,
      The violence of a teenage army,
      Coordinated by a handful of commanders
      And the terrible fear that seeps into everything it touches.
      Only one thing will make these soldiers back down:
      The revenge of all the souls
      That they themselves have made to wander.
      Jose knows this
      And uses it to his advantage.

      His tenacity
      And the need to preserve his humanity
      Will finally bring him what he was looking for
      In the midst of an unprecedented flood:
      What is left of his sons’ bodies.
