    • UNTOLD ARCTIC WARS - The Cold war

During The Cold war era the Arctic region constituted an open flank for the Soviet Union to the Arctic Ocean, and the Nordic countries did their best to balance between East and West and avoid World War III from breaking out.

For the first time ever, Untold Arctic Wars - Cold war will present the significance of the Arctic region during the Cold War that went on for more than four decades.

Soviet Union, but also United States used the Arctic area as their playground for effective intelligence, better and better submarine and missile routes, as well as getting a grip to arctic resources.

Already in 1944, Finland was preparing for large-scale guerrilla warfare against the Soviet Union. Later, border-crossing espionage networks for secret missions were being built throughout the north. Vast fortifications in Sweden and Norway comprised the Arctic line of the iron curtain, and the Arctic Ocean was the setting for a race to the North Pole and Greenland.

The threat of nuclear war, a geographic location along missile and air traffic routes, and submarine war along the coasts of Norway and Sweden turned the Arctic into one of the hottest fields of action in the Cold War.

Six-episode series is Yle´s, (Finnish Broadcasting company) original series. It has already been sold to all Nordic nations.
