- Synopsis
- Ever since Tetsuya met Emi at the age of 10, he has wanted to become a doctor to cure Emi’s heart disease. Now, Tetsuya’s dream of becoming a surgeon and marrying Emi seems well within reach, when he receives a message.
  
  Don, their childhood best friend, has escaped from prison. Seven years earlier, Emi’s father lost his life in a mountain fire. Since then, Don has been imprisoned as the arsonist. The news of Don’s escape resurrects a dark shadow in Tetsuya’s heart. Since childhood, Tetsuya was awed by Don’s unique powers, his ability to see inside the hearts of others, and to bring them peace. Tetsuya is terrified that Don’s reappearance in their lives will destroy his nearly perfect life.
  
  Don has escaped in order to deliver a painting to Emi. En route, he meets Kaneko, a yakuza. Through meeting Don, Kaneko decides to exchange a life filled with regrets for one with real meaning. With help from Kaneko, Don finally reaches Emi’s residence, but Tetsuya is there to prevent their reunion.
  
  Sensing the transformation in Tetsuya, Emi is also anxious. She feels distanced from Tetsuya, who is by her side and closer to Don, who remains out of reach. Perhaps reading both of his former friends’ hearts, Don disappears again…
  
  Struggling to confront his own weakness, Tetsuya learns of Don’s whereabouts from Kaneko, and finally accepting Don’s boundless friendship Tetsuya decides to visit him. As Tetsuya and Emi drive north towards Don, Tetsuya finally confesses to Emi that he set the calamitous mountain fire seven years earlier. Finally accepting himself, Tetsuya regains his hold on life. A genuinely peaceful life should finally await them…
  
  But when the couple finally reach the temple where Don lives, a terrible mountain fire rages, reminding them of the previous conflagration. Don charges into the consuming flames to save a young boy, trapped by the fires. Tetsuya, as though desperate to shake off his own nightmare, races into the fire after Don…
