- Synopsis
- Luziléia, 17, a Black quilombola girl and coconut breaker, wants to know if God has more to offer her than a machete and a stick for breaking coconuts. Determined to escape the fate that has haunted generations of women in her family, she dreams of leaving the backlands behind to continue her studies. During a local folk celebration, she steals the offerings to the Holy Spirit and flees to the capital to live with her transgender cousin, who has been rejected by the family. In the city, Luziléia faces the harsh realities of finding work, all while being haunted by the saint whose alms she stole.
