    • Synopsis
    • A compelling tale in the vein of The Descendants, The Tribes of Palos Verdes takes an unflinching look at the modern American family. We arrive with the Mason's as they move to their new home in idyllic Palos Verdes, California. Their father Phil loves it, but their mother Sandy feels out of place among the fake tans and tennis skirts. Their daughter Medina, is lonely and out of place at school, while her charismatic brother Jim is effortlessly popular. Medina and Jim take up surfing, but must first prove their right to share the waves with the tough "Bayboys" gang that monopolizes their stretch of beach. When Phil admits he is having an affair, Sandy breaks down. Family members begin to turn against one another. Feeling the pressure, Jim begins to rebel, hanging out with a rough crowd, abusing drugs. Eventually Medina is forced to face much more than just the waves to save her brother, her family, and her new home.
