- Synopsis
- Algiers, 1938.
  Meursault, a young man of about thirty, drifts through life with a disarming lack of concern.
  When he receives word of his mother’s death, he buries her without shedding a tear.
  
  The next day he runs into a colleague from work, Marie. They begin an affair. He quickly resumes his routine.
  
  But his neighbor, Sintès, disrupts this calm, drawing Meursault into his dubious affairs — until, one day, Meursault commits an irrational, cold-blooded murder on a beach under a blazing sun.
  
  When the trial begins, it soon becomes an inquiry not only into the crime, but into how little he seems to feel and to fit social conventions.
