- On August 3, 1996, in front of 85,000 stunned spectators, four Canadian sprinters - Robert Esmie, Donovan Bailey, Glenroy Gilbert and Bruny Surin - achieved what was once thought as impossible : winning the Olympic gold medal in the 4x100 relay event, defeating the American team and world champions on their home soil.
