    • Synopsis
    • During the 2002 Godhra riots in Gujarat, India, 30-year-old Samir, while cruising, finds
Rafiq, a Muslim boy, hiding in the bushes. Being chased by a Hindu mob, Rafiq follows Samir, who manages to smuggle Rafiq into his workshop. Annoyed by Rafiq’s refusal to Samir’s advances, Samir throws Rafiq out of his house, only later to find a terrified Rafiq who has managed to sneak back in. A furious Samir chastises Rafiq for jeopardizing both their lives, stating his mistrust of Muslim men. Rafiq recounts his side of the story. Their dialogue leads to both men understanding each other’s plight a little better. As dawn approaches, Samir resolves to get Rafiq to safety. As they attempt to set off on Samir’s motorbike, both men are stopped by the same neighborhood mob. The suspicious mob insists that Rafiq shows them his ‘passport’ (genital) to prove that he is not Muslim. As the situation gets out of control, Samir comes out as transgender by clapping loudly like a Hijra. He dares the mob to look at his Hijra genitals and be cursed, a common superstition in Indian culture. The mob apologizes and leaves both men alone. Samir drops Rafiq to a safe area.
