- Synopsis
- Cedric, an older black gentleman in his late 60s/early 70s, has been married to Joy, a similarly-aged Asian woman, for many happy years. When Joy suddenly passes away, Cedric becomes a shell of who he used to be. He is bitter and severely depressed, yearning to die himself so he can be reunited with his beloved wife.
  
  This all comes to a head one stormy night when Cedric, well into his suicide plan, is interrupted by Aarti, a fifteen-year-old East Indian runaway squatting in his tool shed. Pissed off at this intrusion, Cedric orders Aarti off his property so he can get on with his plan. She refuses to budge and Cedric ends up worrying about her all night long. The next day he invites her into his house – but only temporarily. Once the rain stops, she HAS to leave! Aarti warily accepts Cedric’s offer
  
  The two keep a contentious distance at first. As the night progresses, they gradually begin to open up to each other. Aarti reveals she is pregnant with her boyfriend Chris who she love/hates. She’s determined to have an abortion. Cedric opens up about failures and regrets in his marriage and life.
  
  When lightning strikes the house and the power goes out, they have to fight off Aarti’s ‘bad boy’ boyfriend Chris, as well as an intrusive, well-meaning Pastor Michael.
  
  Still overwhelmed with grief, Cedric tries to commit suicide again but this time is deliberately stopped by Aarti.
  
  Eventually, the two cantankerous and stubborn individuals bridge generational, race, and cultural barriers. They gradually form a deep bond and in the end, Aarti and Cedric save each other's lives, giving them each a whole new perspective on life.
