    • Synopsis
    • At the beginning of his career, David Kaufman, known to the world as Dziga Vertov, the most famous director of documentary cinema in the world, made the epic film devoted to the Civil War in Russia (1918-1922). The film has been shown only once, at a private screening of Comintern (Communist International Organization) in Moscow in June 1921. 2022 marks 100 years since the end of the War and "The History of the Civil War" also reappears after being mysteriously lost for 100 years. Found and meticulously restored by Nikolai Izvolov, this documentary covers key events and figures of the Russian Civil War, among them Leon Trotsky. This grandiose cinematic work can be considered one of Vertov's first author experiments and a steppingstone to his iconic Kino-Pravda series. The discovery and the reconstruction of this unique film is a major event in the history of cinema.
