    • Synopsis
    • “Inspired by Yaşar Kemal’s collection of ‘Elegies’ published in 1992, Sumru is working on a comprehensive compilation of Anatolian elegies and the stories behind them, one of her greatest passions and aspirations. She sets off on a three-month trip to Diyarbakır to bring together an elegy called ‘Hemite’. But behind her ostensible mission is the deep-rooted will to confront a period from her past. Harun, the guy she met and fell in love with at university in her early 20s, disappeared after leaving behind a letter. Until, that is, the newspapers reported his death in an armed clash. In the course of her journey, Sumru finds herself faced with the suffering of scores of people who have seen their villages burned and evacuated. Among them are Gülizar, whose husband disappeared in custody, Antranik, the ageing warden of a tumbledown monastery, and the elderly villager Enver.
