    • Synopsis
    • On a hot day in July 1999, M’Key falls in love with Rita, a young, ethereal woman whom he finds chained to the steering wheel of a car.
M’key works for the Casablanca municipality placing wheel locks on misparked cars. A social outcast, he is a parasite who is only able to maintain his job due to the protective wing of Daoud, a belligerent Police Captain whose murky past is entangled with the Years of Lead*. In exchange for his protection, M’Key is the factotum for Daoud’s beloved, paraplegic wife.
M’key and Rita will live a short yet intensely passionate affair until her brothers – well known robbers who are pursued by Daoud – interpose themselves between the two lovers.
Mistreated by the brothers, helpless and left to fend for himself, M’key will try everything in his power to get Rita back. He ends up suggesting to the brothers a scheme to rob a bank vehicle. In reality, he only wants to buy some time but instead finds himself sucked into the mad frenzy of the brothers’ criminal spin. Through M’key, it doesn’t take Captain Daoud long to track the brothers down. The confrontation ends unexpectedly and Daoud finds himself imprisoned in the trunk of a car, thus condemning his wife to an inelectable death.
Daoud finally frees himself, crazed with rage and sorrow, and decides to hound the brothers and eliminate them one by one.
The lovers find themselves caught in the middle of a war, while in the distance, a deaf rumble hovers like a threat, as rumours announce the illness of the Father of the Nation.
      * The Years of Lead is the term frequently used to describe a period of political and civil unrest (approx. 1960s through the 1980s) under the rule of King Hassan II of Morocco.
