- Based on the masterwork by John Webster, THE DUCHESS OF MALFI is a stunning and surprisingly contemporary tale of lust, betrayal, and murder. The film follows the recently widowed Duchess who falls in love with her steward Antonio. Their union sets in motion a conflict with her cruel and vengeful brothers, The Cardinal and Ferdinand, who enlist the spy Bosola to keep her from escaping their control. The Duchess, born of riches, wants the freedom to marry for love, rather than position. Bosola, born of rags, dreams of nothing more than raising his social status. When their lives intersect, both suffer the cost of their desires.
