    • Synopsis
    • The Cuban Doctor tells the story of Akin, one of the many Cuban doctors in the Mais Médicos program, which was in effect in Brazil until mid-2018. The film begins a few months before the election. Akin is a doctor by vocation, highly dedicated to his profession and his patients. As the film begins, we see this character, who has been in Brazil for about a year, starting to open up to experiences outside of his workplace. It is by attending a forró dance that Akin meets Erica, a vibrant woman and his neighbor. As time passes, they become increasingly close. She introduces him to Sergio, a friend who works as a chef in the city of Vitória. Between his work routine, the sand that insists on invading his spaces, and the imminent presidential election that will determine his future, a passionate connection emerges among these three characters.
The election of Bolsonaro and the end of relations between Cuba y Brasil forces him to make a decision: to return to Cuba and abandon everything he had been building in Brazil, or to stay and reinvent himself, now unable to medicate. None of the options seem to be able to save him from the approaching desert.
