- Synopsis
- "The African Banquet" portrays the life of a large family-tribe of the Sawa ethnic group. Also the reality of the Cameroonian city of Douala, where everyone lives except the male protagonist and his daughter. He lives in Barcelona with his mate, whom he met a decade ago when she traveled to Africa to work in a campaign against tuberculosis.
  
  The documentary begins in Barcelona, showing the differences and tensions between this couple-continent, who must travel to Douala to settle a family dispute. Once there, we enter the intimacy of a house that coexists between ancient costrumbres and the chaos of a port city, the second largest in Cameroon.
  
  Family conflicts are advancing: the matriarch has a disease and the way he got it is causing confusion; the uncle wants to go to Europe at all costs, even knowing that a tragic fate may await him; the niece is entering adolescence and strongly questions her family.
  
  This daily life, not exempted of problems, is mixed with great celebrations and trips (some of them in canoes to neighboring towns) and culminates with the great celebration of the Water Festival (Ngondo). In this ceremony, of big celebration and hedonism, we see the great final celebration of the "African Banquet", after the characters have resolved -or paused- their conflicts to celebrate life communion.
