- Synopsis
- There is a tradition in French Polynesia that few people know about. It is called the "Tere fa'a'ati". It is a tour of the island that used to take place at the beginning of each year. It originally had a social and festive role. It allowed the population to maintain links from one valley to another and offered the opportunity to wish a happy new year to geographically distant family members. A trip that also offers the opportunity to enjoy the landscape in a festive atmosphere. Although the annual tradition in this format has been somewhat lost in Tahiti, it continues in other islands of the Society Archipelago and in the Austral Islands. In this immersion of Tere Fa'a'ati, Polynesian archaeologists, historians and sociologists explain the origin and role of this island tour. They also review the history of these "homemade" trucks.
