    • Synopsis
    • Under the social environment and the tradition in a family with strong preference for sons, An Ran’s parents insist to give birth to a boy called Ziheng even when she is coming to the age of eighteen. An Ran is requested and forced to give up clinical medicine by her parents when she applies for admission to college, so that she can graduate earlier and support the family financially. However, working as a nurse in hospital, An Ran does not give up her dream to become a doctor and desires to leave the small city where she live there all her life.
      One day, An Ran’s parents die in a car accident while she is striving to prepare the postgraduate entrance exam. The responsibility of raising Ziheng become a problem to the whole family unexpectedly. An Ran has to take care of Ziheng as his sister. Meanwhile, An Ran’s relationship with her boyfriend comes to the phase of discussing marriage. To be a satisfied daughter-in-law, An Ran has to lie about her brother.
      Dreaming of studying at medical school in Beijing, An Ran wants to place out Ziheng for adoption but encounters opposition from her relatives. Faced with the patriarchal family environment, An Ran comes to a crossroad of her life: to pursue her dream with living an independent life or to raise her younger brother she barely likes…
