    • Synopsis
    • 1950. Orochi, a mysterious young girl, comes into the mansion of the Monzen family seeking shelter from a storm, and goes to work there as a housekeeper. The owner of the house is Aoi Monzen, the greatest star of the silver screen. She has two pretty daughters, Kazusa and Risa. But the Monzen family has a deep, dark secret: the women of the family may be beautiful to all eyes, but once they pass the age of 29 that beauty crumbles, and gradually they become hideous, rot away, and die. In the attic at the top of the house, a room into which Orochi is ordered never to go, lies the altered form of Aoi’s mother.

Assuming her beauty will also crumble, Aoi gives her daughters strict lessons in performance so they can carry on in her place. Kazusa, however, was not born with natural grace, cannot keep up with the teaching, and gradually forges her own path. Orochi secretly watches this mother and her children.

20 years later...Orochi again comes to the Monzen home.

There she finds Kazusa, who has grown into an exact replica of her mother with no trace of the girl she was, and Risa, who has lost the luster of her childhood and now works in the shadow of her elder sister. One day Aoi, who suddenly withdrew from the public eye and confined herself to the attic, suddenly dies. To Risa, watching over her, she confides an important secret. Hearing this from Risa, Kazusa goes mad with terror, and in the end does a truly terrible thing. The two sisters’ obsession with beauty leads them to a tragedy no one could have foreseen…
