    • Synopsis
    • A new judgement was held on October 5, 2006 against the Argentine military cadres responsible for the genocides during the Seventies.
At the center of this trial, debating the kidnapping and killing of several Italian citizens, a particular location, perhaps the most terrible of all the killing sites of that dark period: the ESMA, the Mechanical School of the Military Navy.
Here, 5000 young people were tortured before disappearing, thrown from airplanes down in the open sea or in the Rio de la Plata; only less than 200 of them survived.
A trial is a story in itself, unfolding through painful testimonies and the final judgment. Our movie will not only follow and record all the stages of the penal judgment, it will also try to investigate the feelings beneath: the mothers' excruciating sorrow, who have hoped until the end to see again at least the bodies of their sons and to have their executioners tried; the great solidarity born between all those who had a similar destiny; the survivors' anguish; the collective effort in the fight for human rights; the trauma of the children who discover that theirs presumed fathers are sometimes the murderers of their true parents.
The movie's initial leitmotiv are the stories of the Italians who were kidnapped and disappeared, like Angela Aieta, a brave mother born at Marina di Fuscaldo in Calabria, or the Veneto entrepreneur Giovanni Pegoraro, who accidentally fell in the dreadful trap set for his 20 years' daughter, Susanna.
Stories of "tanos" (the nickname under which Italians were known):
from the leader of the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, Estela Carlotto, to Vera Jarach Vigevani who lost their young daughters, to Munù Actis and Hebe Lorenzo - among ESMA's few survivors of ESMA - to Evelyn and Victoria, born in clandestinity to desaparecidos parents, who have today to stand the confrontation with the difficult discovery of their identity.
The film will be about the reconstruction of these events, allowing to revive the emotions evoked by the testimonies, as in a fiction where, beside the hopeless moments, it is possible to find a reason for joy and hope, for loving life and surviving.
