- Synopsis
- 12-year-old Nour must leave Cairo after stabbing her sexually abusive father. Finding refuge on an island upstream of the Nile, she becomes Badr, an androgynous teenager. Badr serves a blessed healer, Safiya, who cleanses young girls with mysterious illnesses in the river. Badr, who is only allowed to do menial tasks and is forbidden from dealing with Safiya's patients, struggles to continue obeying orders. Badr then meets Salma, a new patient. The two secretly connect intimately. When a girl drowns during Safiya's sacred ritual, Badr is consumed with rage and promises to protect Salma no matter what.
