- Synopsis
- In Blackpool, in the early 2000s we find Jack. He wrestles between his obligations as a carer, his ambitions as a performer and his need to find friends and build a life of his own. After several knockbacks Jack is spontaneously presented with an opportunity to enjoy a quick drink with a girl he once knew in school, Zoe. Unbeknownst to her, Jack is performing a high-stakes juggling act during their conversation to ensure she doesn’t find out that Jack is the sole-carer of his uncle, Glenn, who suffers from dementia. Jack has told Zoe that he is there alone and she has no idea that Glenn is sitting at the other side of the pub waiting for Jack to return from the toilet. There is a growing risk of Glenn blowing Jack’s cover as he begins to wander around the pub, left to his own devices. The pressure mounts as Jack’s risk of being exposed grows, he desperately wants to avoid Zoe discovering he is not the success he’s talked himself up to be and is in fact a full-time carer. Our story culminates in an ostentatious display, where Jack exorcises his frustrations in an unusual, powerful performance piece whilst he films it on VHS - a visual climax to the preceding events of the story.
