Paolo is a priest in his late thirties. He teaches in Roma at one of the famous Pontifical Universities and is known for his exegesis and exciting courses. He dreamed of going to Jerusalem to take up the post of assistant to the director of the Biblical Institute. But on the very day of his promotion, Paolo received a message from his sister Alma: he had to leave immediately for Procida. On the island, Alma takes care of their aging mother and the family business, a fishermen's bar, with the help of Gina, a young transgender woman with nursing skills. As if she had been waiting for her son's return to die, Enrichetta passes away, leaving a letter to her children in which she asks to be buried in a grave that is not near their father. Alma and Paolo will, each in their own way, appropriate their mother's past and the question of their origins. At the center of the family story is the old prison of Terra Murata, now disused but whose building overlooks Procida.
