    • Synopsis
    • Azucena (65) lives alone in a small house on a river island. Athletic and independent, she moved to the island after inheriting a house from a former boss. Azucena enjoys hunting, fishing, and living in close contact with nature. The island is sparsely populated, with locals either living off occasional tourism, plant nurseries, or choosing the solitude of this charming yet hostile environment.
One day, Carlos, a 70-year-old man, moves into a neighboring house. He is considering retiring on the island, like many others. As he settles in, he begins to rely on Azucena for help with the island's daily tasks, as she teaches him how to manage the basics of island life. Over time, Carlos feels attracted to Azucena, intrigued by her independence. He finds it strange that she is so self-sufficient in such a harsh environment. His curiosity grows, and he starts to question traditional expectations of women, especially of older women like Azucena.
Azucena’s expertise in hunting and fishing impresses Carlos, but it also brings out contradictions in him. He admires her skills but struggles with his own preconceived notions of what a woman, especially an older woman, should be. Despite these thoughts, their relationship develops into a mix of friendship and romance. They enjoy days spent outdoors, hunting and fishing, and evenings where Carlos insists on taking Azucena out to dinner, even though she prefers simpler meals.
One day, Azucena initiates a romantic encounter, and their relationship becomes physical. However, while Carlos begins to hope for more, Azucena values her freedom and doesn’t seek a long-term commitment. Their relationship is casual for her, but Carlos desires something deeper. This tension grows as Carlos's family visits, revealing the differences in their desires. Carlos struggles to understand why Azucena, at her age, wouldn’t want companionship, while she prefers her independence and the simplicity of her solitary life.
When Azucena disappears for a while, Carlos grows restless. She eventually returns with Zenón, a man from her past, further confusing Carlos. The three spend time together, fishing and sharing meals, but Carlos doesn’t understand the dynamic between them. Azucena explains that Zenón is a friend, and when Carlos questions the nature of their relationship, she tells him that he doesn’t understand friendship or freedom. This leaves Carlos reflecting on his expectations and the freedom Azucena cherishes.
In the end, Zenón leaves, and Azucena and Carlos slowly resume their shared activities on the island, maintaining a friendship built on mutual respect, but still shaped by their differing desires for companionship and freedom.
