    • HUGO GERNSBACK: Inventing the Future
An entertaining, in-depth portrait of Hugo Gernsback, the Father of Science Fiction, whose imagination, vision and ability to foresee our technological future influenced not only the development of science fiction worldwide, but the advance of science itself.
He was an inventor, a publisher, a writer and a futurist of epic proportions. He conceived radar before there were working airplanes. He coined the term “science fiction” and created the magazine that popularized the genre. His scientific predictions rival those of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells. Yet for the general public, Hugo Gernsback is a virtual unknown.
Our documentary, HUGO GERNSBACK: Inventing the Future, aims to change all that.
We’ll bring this unique visionary to life in vivid color, embracing every aspect of the man
      – his scientific genius, his gift for invention, his flamboyant lifestyle and taste for luxury,
even his tendency toward shameless self-promotion. We’ll see his struggles, his victories,
his heartbreaks and his courageous determination to overcome obstacles to establish his
rightful place in the world of science and science fiction.
To accomplish this task, we’ll interview individuals whose own achievements reflect
Gernsback’s influence. We’ll hear from giants like comic book creator Stan Lee, writer
Ray Bradbury, and filmmaker Steven Spielberg, whose television series Amazing Stories
took its name from Gernsback’s influential magazine. We’ll travel through Gernsback’s
world, from his childhood home in Luxembourg to the turbulent, exciting environment of
early 20th Century New York, where he would make his name and fortune.
In the end, audiences will come to appreciate the legacy of this fascinating man, whose
influence is being felt even today in the inspiration he provides to scientists, writers and
artists worldwide, in fields as diverse as space travel, literature and motion pictures.
