    • Synopsis
    • Susana Le Marchand, 63, a lonely housewife ignored by her wealthy husband and alienated by their social milieu, is looking for a new maid.
Francisco, her former gardener, comes to the house to make a payment of a loan Susana and her husband made to him. He brings a gift from his wife, Hilda. Flattered by the gesture, Susana decides she wants Hilda in her home and pressures Francisco into accepting the job.
Dusting in a rarely used part of the house, Hilda finds some Marxist books. Grateful for Hilda’s discovery, Susana takes them and reconnects with her leftist past in her days as a student. With Hilda in hand, she questions her frivolous present, and tries to change her life into what she dreamed of becoming when she was young.
Susana’s dependence on Hilda grows. With the help of her security staff, she keeps her from returning home, subtly kidnapping her: she bathes, dresses and cuts Hilda’s hair as if she were a doll. Francisco tries unsuccessfully to rescue his wife. But Susana’s obsession will come at a high price for her and her family.
