    • Synopsis
    • When one of new Detective William’s simple, everyday arrests opens a pandora’s box to more sophisticated felony activities, all identified by the self-proclaimed innocent detainees, Williams’ own department Leadership oddly redirects and stonewalls all further investigations.

Nothing fits for Williams, so he doesn’t relax. Instead, his stubborn, professional nose for justice drives him into secret, off-duty, deeper investigations.

It does not take long before Williams is at the center of illegal vehicle swaps and truck thefts operating out of oily, dirt floor chop shops.

Late night, flickering drop lights half reveal the players, shadowed lift bays and ready to attack toothy dogs protect questionable business methods. Undeterred, our hero watches, follows and taunts the players.

Central to this world is a new face for Williams, a coincidental criminality in the form of the twenty something, groomed to be a professional criminal, Eric Hayes. There’s something about this kid’s cockiness that Williams senses. Like his own bravado, Williams believes this kid uses it to hides his true emotions as Williams does to secret his own guilt for a life changing mistake he made years ago.

Williams leans on the kid and in time Hayes breaks, privately offering to detail the syndicate and reveal all the players. He just wants to quit it all and be the kid he wasn’t allowed to be.

Williams’ ethos takes over and he promises to help Eric, to protect and serve. For Eric it is relief, for Williams, it’s a chance for a do-over; to remove the guilt weighing on him for failing to protect his older brother who was beaten to death because of his lifestyle.

As Williams gathers and uses Eric’s information, word spreads from the street back to the department and facts get twisted marking Williams a dirty cop, starting the Serpico clock ticking.

Threats, attacks and murder attempts hit him from all sides. Trust becomes his enemy, blurry paranoia a food source; our hero protector realizes he has no one to protect him. Certainly, no one to stop the bullet with Eric’s name on it.

The Police execute a plan to get rid of both Williams and Eric in a set up raid designed to ‘go wrong’ which will place our heroes in a situation to justify their deaths.

Williams reads the plan before it gets started and the chase is on leading to a final standoff in the dawn light of a very unequal fire-power battlefield.

A tense, finger-on-the-trigger, last moment save of Williams ends it all for over forty greasy fingernail criminals, and the veil being publicly lifted on a cohort of corrupt Police Officers, Williams supervising Captain, and surprisingly, top city leaders who all have been participating in a secret, police facilitated, nation-wide truck theft operation for over twenty years

More personally, it ends the burden of unwarranted guilt from the thoughts of an honest servant of the law and a young man robbed of his youth who finally got to see how the ‘other side’ lived the principled life.
