    • Synopsis
    • Flowstate /North Brooklyn Artists takes a sincere, conversational look at the gritty inner-workings of what it means to be an artist in North Brooklyn during the summer of 2020.

New York City is in a constant state of change and so is the population of artists who live there and attempt to thrive. Already faced with high rents and limited space, artists were further challenged by the coronavirus pandemic and resulting shutdowns, unemployment, and show cancellations. And yet… the creative spirit of New York City artists remains undefeated.

In each episode of Flowstate /North Brooklyn Artists, hosts Kayafas and Jean-Pierre visit an artist in their home or studio and engage in heartfelt, casual conversations about their lives and artistic practice.

Being artists themselves, the hosts discuss practical matters in addition to technique and process. The conversations are spontaneous and real. The 16 participating artists are at different stages in their careers and come from diverse backgrounds. They include Derrick Adams, Jilly Ballistic, Matthew Benedict, Dave Choi, Lisa Corinne Davis, Damien Davis, Amber Hany, Coby Kennedy, Naomi Okubo, Joey Parlett, Fara’h Salehi, Buket Savci, Fred Tomaselli, Carlos Vela-Prado, Sophia Wallace, and B.D. White. For many, the crew of Flowstate /North Brooklyn Artists was the first outside visitors they’d welcomed since the start of the pandemic.
