    • Synopsis
    • Winner of the Un Certain Regard jury prize at the Cannes Festival, set in the landscapes of the peripheral Spanish Galicia, Laxe's film tells of the need for balance. The ecosystem threatened here is not just nature, but also the local community. The causes of tension are the return of Amador, who has just served two years for arson, and the changes consuming the local tourist-starved villages. The mountainous landscape of Galicia is not just a background, but the main character - raw and demanding, it shapes human characters and relationships in its own image; it carves their faces and it teaches toughness. After his two-year stint in prison, Amador’s mother, greets him witha “You must be hungry,” seemingly the only way she can show her son acceptance and love. Ostensibly similar to a documentary, Laxe's style turns reality into a poem, the theme of which is the titular power of fire - purification through destruction. The condition of change and duration at the same time is expressed as a violent explosion after years of latent unrest and heated desires. Fire Will Come is a cinematicenigma, slow cinema, which observes people in their natural habitat. Laxe humbly accepts the principles dictated by nature. If art can be "eco" at all, then this film is just that - organic.
