- Synopsis
- Kellen (8 years old) an introverted boy, has not spoken since his mother's death. His father decides to travel to spend the summer in the island of El Hierro; perhaps a few months far from Dresden, in Germany, will help him to overcome the situation. Alaric and Ebba, a couple of friends living in the island welcome them into their home, but the old quarrels appear and become present again, distancing them.
  When Kellen meets Manuel (70 years old), an old man from the village with an intellectual disability, a complicity between them come up, overcoming communication and linguistic barriers: a friendship beyond words. Kellen discovers the fascinating world hidden behind Manuel's solitude: the naturalness of his new friend, the routines in the little farm and the charisma of the village make Kellen to smile again.
  When Manuel's recklessness compromises Kellen's safety, Manuel is reproached by the Kellen's father, the past of Kellen's father, Ebba and Alaric is brought back to present and, after a tragic event that plunges to Manuel even more into his loneliness, Kellen speaks again.
  Twenty years later, Kellen returns to the island. The memories of those months come back to him: the memories of a silent friendship that helped to bring him out of his silence.
