ELA is a part of a series of narrative experiments called “fragments“ lightly based on Roland Barthes book A Lover’s discourse: Fragments.

Headed by actor/stage director Tiago Correia, it has a core group of several artists overviewing the project. This is the 3rd fragment and the first one to explore film as a medium. As a director and member of the core group the main responsibilities were to co-write the script and direct the movie. In a period of residency we set out, after a few months of pre production, to create this unique product, an experimental movie exploring several stages of an amourous relationship.

Moving away from a traditional narrative concept, ELA is a consolidation of this group as a creative team as well as a manifesto for what we believe takes to make art. The film’s approach to the medium is closely related to Robert Bresson’s Notes on the Cinematographer, where film tries to distance itself from literary and theatrical mimic, developing a language of its own to convey the story.
