- Synopsis
- 8 years old Lucia grows up with her Mexican-born family in a chimerical Montreal’s working-class neighborhood. She navigates this world nimbly, fascinated by insects and always searching for new talismans in wastelands. Between gambling games that obsess her surroundings, her dissipated mother and her eccentric grandmother, Lucia tries to find her place and identity within this unique family clan. Her imagination becomes an inexhaustible and powerful resource that will help her cope with the sudden death of her beloved grandmother. Creatures of Chance is a bittersweet fable that pays tribute to the invisible forces of feminine filiation, in this not always ideal family, for better and for worse.
