- Synopsis
- Grouchy 'CHILI' Pepperton (35) is a cynical Vet who doesn't really like people. Which is why she's ended up as a police officer on an isolated island where the most common form of transport is a golf cart.
  
  One night, strange lights are seen in the sky as Chili and her partner are called to an incident at a chemical complex, where they arrest AKE, an environmental scientist protesting about pollution. But then they find the engineers and hard-hats transformed into psychos who crawl on all fours in an animalistic frenzy - with eyes that are unnaturally bright green.
  
  Chili accidentally shoots her partner. And for some reason all comms are down. With a handcuffed Ake, she makes it to a doctor's. But her partner lapses into a coma... only to come back to vigorous life, his eyes bright green and his posture now on all fours. He spews a bloody flux over the doctor, before starting to eat him. Chili is forced to kill her partner.
  
  The island is in chaos. Those who aren't dead are being hunted by the Crawlers, who spew the bloody flux to pre-digest their prey. The green-eyed, human-but-not-human Crawlers are everywhere - up trees, hiding in toilet cubicles or prowling the streets. Chili is the only authority left. Reluctantly, she has to take charge, work with Ake, and save the survivors.
  
  Ake concludes the townsfolk have been infected by an alien race that is insect-like in its original form. Following this logic, Chili wants to release huge quantities of pesticide from the chemical plant to kill the Crawlers. Ake protests that this could make things worse. And he's
  right - when Chili tries to poison the Crawlers, the monsters just get stronger. Ake proposes fire as the best solution.
  
  Driven to desperate lengths, Chili rounds up all the survivors in an ice-cream van and uses them as bait. She traps the massed Crawlers in the police station. In a final confrontation, Chili and Ake burn all the Crawlers to a crisp.
  
  The long night is at an end. Chili and Ake usher the survivors onto a boat. But then, over the distant mainland, they see strange lights in the sky...
