    • Synopsis
    • COMBATE presents for the first time a chronicle of Chavismo from its beginnings to the present day, taking Venezuela as an example of the effects that authoritarian populism can have in a country, be it from the left or from the right, in the struggle between democracy and autocracy that is being waged in the battlefield of international geopolitics.

In Venezuela the relentless battle between the Chavista regime and its opponents has lasted for over 24 years.

The narrators of this saga, coming from very diverse social backgrounds, are parents whose children were brutally murdered, activists whose only crime was going out to protest; leaders who have risked their lives, were imprisoned, tortured, persecuted and now, from exile, continue the fight on the international stage.

Through them, the story of a country that was seduced by a charismatic leader who promised its people a just, prosperous and corruption-free paradise.

In its beginnings, the humanist ideals presented by "El Comandante" seduced the vast majority of the population. Chávez made the people aware of their legitimate rights. Leaders and Intellectuals from around the world supported his vision. But that ideal progressively crumbled due to polarisation, incompetence, violence and corruption.

To help us define the context, we have captured the analysis of historians who analyse with a clinical eye the inexorable process of a regime that promised a socialist paradise and became a dictatorship that unscrupulously violates human rights, as denounced by the UN, the OAS, the European Parliament and the International Criminal Court.

In the fight for control of Venezuela, the most powerful countries in the international chess game face each other: the United States, the European Union and more than 50 democracies against the regimes of Cuba, China, Russia, Turkey and Iran.

Evoking murders, demonstrations, attempts at dialogue, and infighting, our story is filled with fascinating characters, devastating revelations and unpredictable reversals of fortune.

The result is a moving journey to the heart of the tragedy, a revealing exploration of Chavismo and a panoramic vision of the Geopolitical landscape.
