    • Synopsis
    • Something is not quite right in the world of fast food, Harry Potter, GPS and microwaves as three generations clash under a glum sky. Jean-Pierre, a writer with a serious block, is about to be honoured for his life’s work. His daughter thinks he’s a fake, and his grandson is brain-addled by Wii. Meanwhile, Jacek and his nephew Janusz, vacationing in Quebec, are deep in the woods debating the virtues of progress in this era of “postmodern faggots” where no one reads anymore and people think Andrzej Wajda is a guy who owns a bakery. So who is right? The disenchanted old-guard intellectuals? Or the youth devoid of vision? Neither, the director seems to say.
Galiero made a number of shorts before releasing this clear-eyed, meticulous and deliciously acerbic debut feature with its backdrop of cheap motels, bowling alleys and boxy housing. It is a superb tragicomedy in black and white about a collection of people looking for something to hold on to.
