    • Synopsis
    • “Brüder”, the German word for “Brothers”, is the search for a shared European story. A story that was forged during the “great seminal catastrophe of the 20th century”: The First World War (1914 – 1918).
Two good friends, Hendrik Jan Vermeulen and Merlijn, a guitarist and a drummer, have chosen to set up an ambitious project to unite Europe and her current inhabitants. They travel across the Old Continent and gather eight musicians from different countries whose ancestors fought against each other in the Great War. A meeting of ‘brothers’ who share almost forgotten stories, poetry and music. 100 years after the tragic events, when the trauma is still painful but the memories are fading away, these young people make music together to honour those who sacrificed their lives and symbolically celebrate the beginning of a new era.
Their journey starts from the notorious battlefields in Flanders, Belgium and continues to the icy mountains between Austria and Italy, through the wayward-spirited Balkans and the Turkish Strait of Gallipoli to end up in the inhospitable mountains of Armenia.
