    • Synopsis
    • In the mountains of Savoy, plagued by smuggling activities, Governor Charles-Maximilien della Chiesa launches a desperate campaign to eradicate illegal trade, but fails against ruthless outlaws. Among these brigands, the feared Louis Mandrin reigns supreme.

While Mezza Espinoza, daughter of the Duke of Vigogne, is on her way to marry the Knight of Rohan, her convoy is attacked by smugglers, and she is taken hostage. Mandrin demands a ransom for her release. The Governor, wanting to avoid an insurrection, decides to infiltrate the smugglers. He tasks Diotis with infiltrating them, while also accusing the people of supporting the smuggling, which exacerbates social and economic tensions.

To restore order, King Louis XV sends Pietros Mestrale, a brilliant police inspector, to Savoy. However, Pietros’s arrival is seen as a threat by Sanson, a lawless militiaman. Meanwhile, Filippon, a returning smuggler, reunites with his companions Gros Sac and Agostina and assembles a team to steal seized goods.

During a confrontation, Mandrin and his gang rob Filippon and hand him over to the authorities. Sentenced to death, Filippon narrowly escapes execution thanks to his companions. Newly arrived in Chambéry, Pietros gets caught up in a frantic chase with Filippon, and they end up joining forces to infiltrate Mandrin’s Troupe des Echelles.

As tensions rise, Filippon schemes to earn Mandrin’s trust. He reveals a smuggling plan on the Voie Sarde, but it backfires when Pietros betrays the operation. Anticipating this betrayal, Filippon ensures Mandrin’s safety, which allows him to officially join the Troupe des Echelles.

The situation worsens when Sanson, acting with the Governor’s approval, tries to eradicate the smuggling by flooding the underground tunnels. Filippon and his companions continue to navigate between betrayals and fragile alliances. Amidst the confrontations, Filippon discovers that Mezza is complicit with the smugglers and shares a common desire for freedom.

Still seeking revenge, Filippon proposes a daring mission to attack the Monastery of the Grande Chartreuse, a strategic location for producing the precious Génépi. A final showdown with Sanson leads to a perilous chase through the mountains, culminating in an avalanche that decimates Sanson’s troops.

In the end, Filippon deceives Mandrin by hiding the real cargo of Génépi and escapes from Savoy with his companions. Pietros and Mezza, arrested at the border, are freed by the Governor under pressure from the Knight of Rohan, who renounces his forced marriage to Mezza. Together, Pietros and Mezza choose to continue their journey, free from all constraints.
