    • Synopsis
    • Black Community MixTapes is a short-form digital series that follows two thriving young filmmakers on their quest to rediscover Canadian Black History. Hosts of the show, KhaRå Martin and Yvano Antonio, embark on a journey interviewing Black Canadian archivists as they try to give new life to their treasured archives on the internet, all the while uncovering Canada’s never before seen footage and materials.

Plenty of Black Canadian history lives in crates, file folders and photo albums, stowed in the basements of Black retirees, and are often unseen, undocumented and unrecognized by national institutions. If Black Canadian history isn’t available online or in a museum, will Canadians ever know that it exists?

Each 10-15 minute episode of the series will focus on different Black archivists seeking to either digitize, or find a new way to showcase the forgotten or never before seen materials. We will then dive into the material itself and discover why these items are important to Black Canadian History. By looking through the eyes of the people who were passionate enough to collect and store these materials, KhaRå and Yvano will follow these individuals diving deeper and deeper into what makes Canadian history and in turn learning more about the rich heritage here in Toronto and also themselves.
