    • Synopsis
    • Becoming Me is a film about three young women, Elli, Laura and Juulia. Each of them writes a blog on her life on the Internet, all of them sharing their lives with strangers. Each of them is struggling with the real or imagined demands and pressures of today’s society. Fear of failure and excessive control turn easily into fear of life and results in alienation from one’s society.

Elli has a pro-anorexia blog, even though she herself would like to recover from the disorder that has led her to attempt suicide. After a two-year long sick leave she is finally faced with normal life. Laura’s extreme self-control limits her everyday life in many ways. She tries to shake depression and self-loathing with the help of a mother-like therapist. Meetings often end up in tears and anger, but Laura is determined to leave to continue her studies in Japan. Juulia has a fashion blog and she takes countless pictures of her life and herself for the blog during the week. Despite of the 40 000 blog followers every month her small-town based real life is rather lonely and she doesn’t feel comfortable to face new people and unexpected situations.

Becoming Me reflects the demands, which young women face in order to ‘get along in life’. It’s a film about being an outsider, about one’s identity and confronting one’s past as well as life-restricting fear. It is a journey from alienation towards the slow process of accepting yourself, reaching out for others and trying to find the lost feeling of belonging.
