    • Synopsis
    • BAD BLOOD takes place in a forty year span, set in the late 19th century at the crossroads of the falling Ottoman Empire and the looming of modern times. A time of big political change and turmoil, when rich merchant families are being replaced by the strengthening and rising peasants. This transition is marked by constant struggles between the old and new, rich and poor, individuals and the societies they live in.
Through the portrayal of three generations, Bad Blood tells a story of one family’s financial, moral and physical decline. A story how bad blood spreading through a family ends up causing it’s own decay.
Trifun, a wealthy Christian minority leader under the Turkish Empire represents the first generation of the family. His individual drama centers around the attempt to meet the moral standards of his society, fighting his own erotic urge, while trying to preserve the wealth and reputation of his family. In order to maintain his power, Trifun doesn't choose his means causing terrible consequences for his family members.
Representing the second generation of the family is Mita, Trifun’s son, who doesn't want to be a part of his father's dirty business empire. The historical backdrop of his generation is marked by a clash between social classes. Mita belongs to the group of old aristocrats whose resources are drying out and he is being opposed by the newly rich profiteers, uneducated and vulgar. Losing his entire fortune and property towards the end, Mita is forced to marry off his most beautiful daughter Sofka to a newly rich social climber, to afford basic resources and survive.
Sofka represents the third generation of the family, defined by a complete financial and spiritual decline. Despite being marked by the blood and actions of her ancestors she tries to rise above the social and historical circumstances of the time she is living in. She decides to run away with her son in search of a better future leaving behind the decay created by her family.
