    • Synopsis
    • In Bad Attitude: The Art of Spain Rodriguez, Emmy-nominated director Susan Stern explores the controversial life and art of her late husband, Eisner-award-winning cartoonist Spain Rodriguez. Rodriguez was a founder of the 1960s underground comix movement, the taboo-breakers who established comics as a legitimate art form. He was also involved in the 1970s Latinx art movement. Bad Attitude traces both the history of comics and the evolution of Rodriguez, from outlaw biker to loving husband and father. Comics luminaries R. Crumb and Art Spiegelman, Black writer Ishmael Reed and feminist Susie Bright, among others, share their insights, and daughter Nora Rodriguez provides experimental animation. The soundtrack, including music by Santana, Jerry Lee Lewis, Charles Mingus and the Fugs, sets a fast pace. Of what value is controversial art? How should we understand contradictory men? Bad Attitude argues that they should be not just tolerated, but valued.
