    • Synopsis
    • ARTIES follows MITCH SELBY (17), whose life is upturned when he sneaks out of his home to go to a high school party and meet his girlfriend, MARY (16). That night, they share a connection and open up about their hopes and dreams. When the night ends and they sneak back into Mitch’s house, Mary is soon killed in a sudden police raid; Mitch learns that Mary was an ARTIE, an Artificial Intelligent fugitive on the run. Having hidden a necklace she gave to him, containing information he doesn’t understand, Mitch begins a journey to deliver the necklace to HESPERIDES, a mountain freetown where Arties and sympathizers hide. His key companion on this journey is INDIRA (33), an Indigenous Capetonian woman who had helped Mary escape, and has made it her mission to see the necklace to its destination. This unlikely pair crosses a familiar and distant version of the Western World wrecked by the effects of technology and class stratification, slowly being reclaimed by an angry mother nature. Framed around Mitch and Indira’s quest, this series reveals itself to be a more thoughtful treatise on civil rights, environmentalism, and the questionable morality of violence, as we examine it through the lens of the present day pushed to its most logical and destructive extremes in the future.
