    • Synopsis
    • ‘Arte al Agua! The Cod Fishermen of Newfoundland’ will be an intimate and dramatic portrait of the incredible hardships and sufferings, dreams and aspirations endured by the Spanish cod fishermen during the golden years of Cod fishing (1950- 1980) in the harsh Canadian waters surrounding Newfoundland
Until it all came crashing down, wiping out the powerful Spanish cod fleet and laying off thousands of fishermen. Our documentary will be the final chapter of a 500-year saga that took place in these Canadian waters and on Spanish soil. It is the very last chance these men can share their experiences with an audience, before they are rendered silent and never heard of again. This is their story, for a large part filmed by themselves on super8 cameras and one that has never fully been told; of the brave men who achieved the status of legends in their times, who went out to do what they did best and triumphed to the point that they destroyed their very own livelihood.
