    • Synopsis
    • Alexi Laiho, the world’s best metal guitarist passed away in 2020, leaving behind a huge legacy and even bigger hole in the music scene. His band Children of Bodom toured the world for more than twenty years with the biggest names in metal: Slayer, Slipknot, Machine Head, Megadeth, Black Label Society and Dimmu Borgir, to mention just a few. Their records sold millions worldwide, they also headlined in the world’s biggest festivals. They’ve been the idols of many of today’s musicians all over the globe. To this day, the band still has a huge following, but the true story of how and why everything fell apart has never been told before.

Are you f*cking dead yet? is the first official documentary, approved and supported by the band members themselves. It starts right at the beginning: how these young naïve 17-18 year old guys were thrown onto the biggest stages in Europe and how a few years later followed the same success in the USA and all over the planet. How the super talented wonder kid Alexi built a technically superb band, but gradually fell deeper and deeper into his addictions, which slowly tore apart everything they had achieved, including his unlucky marriage with another metal star, Kimberly Goss, went beyond the imaginable.

Alexi’s violent alcohol abuse started whilst on Slipknot’s USA tour, where Slipknot’s groundbreaking drummer Joey Jordison, yet another super talented musician, became his companion in this destructive behavior. Joey was later kicked out from Slipknot and tragically died in similar style to Alexi. Another crucial turning point in their fate was when Children of Bodom kicked its second guitarist Roope Latvala out of the band. The repercussions from this fallout were devastating. Roope, a pioneer in the Finnish metal scene and an internationally established guitarist hasn’t touched his guitar since the day he was fired. These days, Roope is an alcoholic living in the suburbs of Helsinki and we’ll hear his version of the story as well.

Children of Bodom was truly in a league of its own. Alexi was voted as the best metal guitarist in the world several times over, beating the likes of Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Guns n’ Roses’ Slash, Zack Wylde, and many other legends. And it wasn’t just Alexi getting all the fame, Children of Bodom keyboardist Janne Wirman was also named the best metal keyboard player in a world. They were known for being one of the best and most technically talented bands – but at the same time were forced to cancel complete tours due to Alexi’s addictions, accidents and ever increasing personal issues.

There are hundreds of hours of material and footage never previously seen before, captured on five video cameras, which the band members carried around on their tours. And now, for the first time, we exclusively hear their story told by the remaining living band members themselves as well as some equally shocking stories from all the international huge name superstars they originally toured with.
