- Synopsis
- A Colombian director with an idea that just wouldn’t leave his mind: to find Robo, a lost rock legend, to ask him to act in his new feature film. Julio Roberto Valverde, AKA "Robo", is the iconic drummer of American bands Black Flag and Misfits. He's the Colombian migrant who, in the 80's, influenced a whole musical genre with a particular way of playing. Little is known about Robo. However, he has been referenced even in Jim Jarmusch's films. His name is written in rock history books and in the most emblematic punk and hardcore records. “A Tropical Punk” rebuilds Robo through the voices of Ian Mackaye, Henry Rollins, Bill Stevenson, Chuck Dukowski, Keith Morris, among other colleagues, friends and family. Thousands of miles travelled within the US were necessary to find out that Robo was really close: he was taking care of his mother, in a small Colombian town.
