    • Synopsis
    • 1-800-HOT-NITE is a coming-of-age urban odyssey that finds three boys attempting to escape Child Protection Services and a police officer that threaten to tear their friendship apart. Teetering on the edge of childhood, TOMMY (13), clings to the last bit of his innocence with his two best friends, STEVE (13), who's always joking, and his truculent cousin, O’NEILL (14). They squeeze themselves inside the last phone booth in the city and dial 1-800-HOT-NITE where AVA’s syrupy voice simulates sex in their juvenile ears. Riding high on their “sexual encounter” the Boys meet up at a hot-tub with some classmates that they’re secretly in love with and then head back to Tommy’s to get some beers and Vicodin. The levity quickly turns tragic when the front door BURSTS open and DEA agents swarm to take his family into custody, including Tommy’s toddler brother, ISAIAH, Tommy seizes the moment to escape out of his window with Steve and O’Neill, and their momentum carries us to the first stop on their confrontational yellow-brick-road…

First, it’s a mini golf course where O’Neill gets knocked out by an older teenager, then a motel where they bride a homeless woman with free Vicodin to pose as their mother (it doesn’t work). Later, they hustle cash from Tommy’s paper-route customers and it goes terribly awry when he is pulled into a house by a group of men that steal his cash. Licking their wounds and knowing this could be their last night together, they sneak to BRITT’S house where a friendly game of Marco Polo brings Tommy and Britt together to share a sweet first kiss. Even his beacon of happiness quickly closes when O’Neill’s jealously gets the best of him and he attacks Tommy with a barrage of punches. It’s a raw encounter that leaves Steve heart-broken and Tommy on the asphalt in a puddle of water and tears.

Abandoned and afraid, Tommy calls 1-800-HOT-NITE. Instead of phone sex, AVA arrives in-person like a low-rent fairy godmother. She helps Tommy break into his own house but their bad plan takes and bad turn when the police force Tommy on one final sprint. He leaps a fence into a field of power-line towers, blitzes to one of the cables; exhausted and betrayed he weighs his options then GRABS THE CABLE. He’s not electrocuted like he thought he would be; a realization that washes over him as Ava tackles him to the ground. These two unlikely allies share an unorthodox heart-to-heart that helps Tommy realize he’s a man now and he must take responsibility and be a brother to Isaiah. In his first moment of adulthood, Tommy turns himself in. We ride with him in the back of the police cruiser as layers of youth dissipate off him like smoke out of the window. When he arrives as the CPS office, little Isaiah runs out to embrace his older brother. The two holds hands. They are still a family as we FADE TO BLACK…
