SKALVIJA Cinema Center is a small (1 screen and 121 seats) art-house cinema situated in central Vilnius. Small but cozy, it is well known amongst film lovers for its distinctive repertoire. The programming focuses on non-commercial European and World cinema, both classics and recent film. SKALVIJA is the major venue for cinematic events – festivals, meetings with filmmakers, retrospectives, special screenings. Skalvija more then 10 years distributes films for young audiences.
1. Introduce the audience to non-commercial cinema, with a special focus on European countries, organize programs featuring classic films, author retrospectives, and thematic cycles. 2. Pay special attention to Lithuanian cinema: present works of Lithuanian filmmakers, hold special events dedicated to them (retrospectives, premieres), and organize meetings with film crew members. 3. Develop cinema education projects, with a particular emphasis on school-age children and young adults.
