Description

Renowned for exhibition and distribution in the US, our signature programs include Mill Valley Film Festival (founded 1977), California’s renowned October celebration of new cinema and launch pad for Awards-track films; the Smith Rafael Film Center (founded 1999), the beautifully restored art house known for high quality programming and in-person film events; and CFI Releasing (since 2008) the innovative non-profit distribution initiative that brings great world cinema to US audiences.

Objective

The Mill Valley Film Festival, Smith Rafael Film Center and CFI Releasing — all signature programs of CAFILM — are currently focused on maintaining and elevating the profile of arthouse and independent cinema, through our work with both burgeoning and established filmmakers. Key programs include For Your Consideration & Contenders Season. Our long-running Mind the Gap initiative continues to be a leading voice on issues of gender equity in film. We are currently embarking on a significant capital campaign to restore and renovate the historic Sequoia Theater, the long-time home of MVFF.
